Yacht Harbour Facilities
On the banks of the River Nene approximately 11 miles inland, Wisbech is the perfect base for yacht lovers looking to explore the town and the striking Fen countryside that surrounds it. Already the most popular Fenland location for short stay breaks, Wisbech has considerable potential to develop the economic benefits of its waterways.
The new yacht club, based in the Boathouse, will have shower/toilet facilities and a bar. This will provide an even more pleasant experience for yacht owners when visiting Wisbech and help to create a strong identity and urban waterfront for the town.

Currently, yachting and boating enthusiasts from Cambridgeshire and the Midlands are discovering the attractions, and advantages, of Wisbech as a port to berth their boats. It is also increasingly becoming a destination for Dutch and other foreign yachts
The berth facilities have been recently increased as part of the Nene waterfront Regeneration Project. The number of state-of-the-art berths has risen from 70 to 128 to meet demand.
A new 75-tonne boatlift and wet dock has been constructed and is now operational. Boat repair facilities will follow. The boatlift is the biggest on the East Coast, from Newcastle to Gravesend. When it opened in April 2007 it became and instant draw for boatowners looking to store their boats in the winter and have them checked over at the beginning of the season. Boat repair facilities will follow. The boatlift will be the biggest on the East Coast from Gravesend to Newcastle and it will be a major draw for boat owners looking to store their boats in the winter and have them checked over at the beginning of the season.
It is planned to supplement this with a slipway and workshops to provide repair and inspection facilities for leisure and commercial vessels.
The yacht harbour, the boatlift and the maintenance
and servicing facilities will play a major role in the creation
of new employment opportunities.
Backing onto a new square with restaurants and shops, the new moorings will provide a modern and inviting leisure space for people to relax in. The extended yacht harbour will also complement current proposals for the Fens Waterway link, which is seeing almost £150 million being invested to provide 50 miles of new navigable waterways and improved access and facilities for a further 100 miles. Wisbech will provide an even more attractive destination for those vessels navigating the Fens.
The redevelopment will also reflect the need to ensure Wisbech continues to operate as a busy working port. Commercial vessels will therefore see a significant improvement in facilities. Maintenance and inspection facilities for commercial vessels up to 200 tonnes and 50m long will be provided for the first time. This means that fishing boats from Wisbech, King's Lynn and beyond will have facilities on their doorstep for their annual inspections.
