Contractors clear derelict land for future housing development in Wisbech
Work has started clearing a site earmarked for housing as part of the £47million of the Nene Waterfront Development in the heart of Wisbech.Contractors have now begun the work of clearing 20 years of dereliction from what is known as Site 3, between Bedford Street and Chase Street.
The 1.5 acre site is part of the massive 9.5 acre town centre development site that will transform the economic fortunes of Wisbech and the whole of the Fens. The contractors are clearing the overgrown scrub and the accumulation of litter from the site before boarding it off ready for future development. This site was formerly used for housing, but for more than 20 years it has been a derelict wilderness. Now, it is set to be transformed into a thriving residential community close to the yacht harbour with 29 detached and semi-detached homes.
The Nene Waterfront Development Project, funded by Fenland District Council, EEDA, Go East and English Partnerships, is the largest and most prestigious project ever to have got off the ground anywhere in Fenland. It is already attracting a great deal of interest among developers who are keen to get involved in this unique scheme.
